Many people think that they have to choose the perfect option because they will spend the rest of their lives working in that subject area. The truth, though, is that people change careers much more frequently these days than in the past. That can take a little pressure off of you when it comes time to choose your college major.

Rather than choosing a specific major, you might also consider taking a multidisciplinary approach to your education. Most colleges and universities allow their students to create their own majors. That means you can combine your interests into a unique major. As long as there is some cohesion, you could create your own major by taking classes in literature, anthropology, psychology, philosophy and other disciplines. In fact, many students find that this approach prepares them for graduate school, where they are expected to study, research and write with less oversight from their teachers.

If you are worried that you won’t get the background that you need to pass graduate school entrance exams, then you can always sign up for a GMAT prep course.

Creating your own major is a terrific approach to focusing on subjects that interest you most. It is important, though, to realize that your academic advisor might insist that you take certain courses. Although you might not want to take all of these classes, challenging yourself by stepping outside of your comfort zone will give you a better background that helps you succeed academically. The advisors, after all, have their jobs because they know what classes you need to succeed.

If your school does not give students the opportunity to create their own majors, then approach the administration to talk about this option. You could be the first student to seriously pursue this approach to multidisciplinary study.

Sending personalized postcards back home so that your family can see your house and your children is a great way to help you all stay connected. It’s one of the best ways to show each other the value of family and caring about more in life than just yourself. You can also teach your children about their heritage and the people in their family that they really haven’t met or may not remember or know much about. Keep those people in your heart and mind, and they’ll always feel as though they’re close to you – even when many miles separate you.

Send postcards, send letters, send emails, and call. Even if you correspond a lot, it’s important to be able to hear your family members’ voices, too. That may comfort you in a way that other things just can’t. When you aren’t able to talk to your family, get out the postcards they’ve sent you. Save them all, and look through them if you feel alone or like you miss home too much. It can help you get through a difficult time and on to happier days.

My mom keeps talking about how she’s worried about the crime rate in the new neighborhood or how she might be too lonely. The entire problem is that Mom just doesn’t want to let go of her last child. We’ve all agreed that we need to invite her over more often to give little sis’ a break now and then. As all the kids have grown up and moved out, we’ve kind of neglected mom a little bit. Oh, we’re always there for holidays, but we need to be there day-to-day a little bit more.

I’m going to try to talk mom into taking a class or joining a club, too. Maybe if she got out and had more of her own life, it would make her a little less lonely. She’s been a great mom and dedicated her life to us. It’s definitely time that she had a chance to live a little. I can’t picture her finding a boyfriend, but I’d be OK with that, too. Dad’s been gone so long that she might even be open to the idea if the right man came along.

We’re all going over this weekend to help my sister pack up and move. I’m planning on ordering some Chinese takeout and making a party out of it. Maybe I’ll even talk mom into coming back here for the night so that the house doesn’t feel so empty right away.

1. What is your holiday wish for your family? To enjoy the time we have together and be thankful for our family and friends. I also wish for a great winter ski trip for our family where we can have a great time on the mountain.

2. What is your Christmas morning / Hanukkah Nightly tradition? Our morning tradition is opening gifts from Santa and having a full breakfast that everyone helps to prepare.

3. If you could ask Santa for one, completely decadent wish for yourself, what would it be? To give my wife the new Honda Odyssey that she has been waiting for.

4. How do you make the holidays special without spending any money? Playing family games throughout the Christmas holidays and creating memories through pictures and videos that we replay the following year as the kids get older.

6. What holiday tradition have you carried on from your own childhood? Stringing cranberries and popcorn to put around the Christmas tree while watching ” Charlie Brown Christmas”

At first I was a little skeptical. I was sure that I would get bored quickly, or find the games to be somewhat childish. Luckily, though, when I got to the casino, I was pleasantly surprised. There was a huge variety of different games. I had a hard time deciding exactly where would be the best place to start. After a few minutes of wandering around the site, I decided to start at blackjack. This is a game that I’ve always enjoyed. I was a little concerned that playing online would be frustrating or difficult. When playing blackjack in a brick and mortar casino, you can kind of feel out the table. Online, this is not as easy. It was definitely fun, though!

Next, I decided to play some poker. Again, this is a game that can be difficult on the Internet, simply because you can’t look at the players around you and grab their tells. It seemed like much more of a game of chance when playing on the web than in a live casino.

Heading to the slots, I figured that this, at least, would be very similar to a regular casino. And I was right. Playing a slot machine doesn’t take interaction with others, so it was very similar to physical casino slots; it was a fun time waster that didn’t take much energy or effort.

How easy is it to scoop up a second helping of Grandma’s sweet potato casserole, with its shiny, sticky sauce and golden marshmallows? Very easy, actually. That’s why it’s important to remember your fitness goals before you even sit down at the table, taking modest portions and avoiding seconds you’re actually too full for, anyway. While time seems especially short around the holidays, rushing to and fro shopping, visiting, entertaining, and cooking, it’s important to carve out personal exercise time. Half an hour of vigorous exercise four or more few times a week will keep your muscles active and toned, and burn off those snowman sugar cookies. You could even get together with a group of friends for a gym session; that way you won’t feel like you’re missing out on any fun. And don’t forget that sledding, skiing, dancing, and even caroling burn calories—working a rolling pin can even work your arms; just make sure you pass the sweets on to neighbors!
